Sometimes the only way to deal with a bad boss is to take matters into your own hands and find another job! Of course, this isn't always easy or possible, but it sure feels great if you work for a bonehead and can get yourself into a better situation. I'm happy for a fellow coworker that she was able to be so lucky, as I found out from her earlier today.
My coworker was especially lucky because she was able to go from "realization" to having the new job offer in record time - less than one month! Amazing, especially considering that the new job she was offered is in the same company, just a different division. She too works for the same supervisor, our "buddy" Ms. Gruff. My coworker's point of realization came when Gruff, for the first time, questioned her time, as to whether a full 8 hour day was being put in. What a freakin' joke, especially coming from Gruff who, as you'll recall from numerous other blog posts, keeps the absolute worst work hours and has the absolute worst work ethic I've ever seen. My coworker said that incident caused her to realize the type of supervisor and person Gruff is; it caused the coworker, that day, to look on the job posting board. And, amazingly, when she looked on the board that day, she saw a job and applied for it. the following week she was interviewed and today, two weeks later, she received an offer. To no surprise, she accepted immediately and will begin the new job in about a month. Lucky her - free from Gruff's tyranny!
As I said, it's great that everything worked out and so fast for my coworker. I'm very happy for her. The sad news is, there are many, many good people; good workers who are STUCK as schmucks, unable really to get out from under jerk bosses like Gruff, working for real leaders who know how to treat people and lead their organizations
